Ethics

General information

Given the recent debates about the use of genomic and other health related data in research and practice, this part of the course focuses on what are the key ethical issues that fuelled such debates. Using case studies, students will engage with the ethical and regulatory arguments about how to conduct health data research.

Learning objectives

  • Understand ethical issues in the generation and use of personal data

  • Explore the concepts of privacy, anonymisation and consent

  • Debate current controversies in data-driven research

Lecture

This section has a prerecorded lesson which we would like you to watch before the lecture on Friday (02.06.2023). The lecture will predominantly be a discussion about the ethical problems in the lesson recording. Please do also prepare the two activities before Friday so that the lecture can be as inclusive and discussive as possible.
